ABOUT MPP
MOUNTAIN PASS PERFORMANCE is an EV oriented performance company started in 2017 by a group with a deep rooted history in motorsport. Our goal is to carry that background to the electric car community, and develop EV’s into not only efficient and logical vehicles – but objects of desire. Cars that you want to drive. Cars that are rewarding and exciting to drive. There is more to performance than just power and straight line acceleration. And that is what we’re all about.
SASHA ANIS is the founder of MPP. He has over 15 years of experience in the automotive motorsport industry specializing in vehicle dynamics, data logging, motorsport electronics, as well as engine calibration and component design. He has also won a number of championships as a driver and crew chief in professional racing series across North America.
In 2017 we took on an EV conversion project to build what we considered to be the ultimate sports car. A very capable Lotus Evora with an underwhelming engine was turned into a 500 horsepower monster in short order with the help of a Tesla drive unit. Blue Lightning has received more than its fair share of attention – garnering almost a million views across multiple YouTube videos. The first season with the car was extremely successful, with full reliability and a number of track days under its belt, we’ve proven how capable an EV road car can be on and off the track.
The reason for the EV build was to invest our energies and passion for the automobile to a more sustainable and responsible future. We wanted to be doing something we felt good about – without being boring. Blue Lightning is a great example of that, and our goal is to bring products to market that enhance the enjoyment, efficiency, and performance of EVs.
In 2020, we took our development of Blue Lightning to the next level, by combining that architecture with our record-holding Nissan 350z racecar. We coupled a 150 horsepower electric motor to a high-power naturally aspirated engine to create one of the only hybrid-electric racecars in the world. We renamed the car “KERS Kels” and went on to set some lap records with it – the car currently holds the fastest lap time at Mosport for a non-factory-built sportscar, and there is still so much further to go.
Since Blue Lightning and KERS Kels, Mountain Pass Performance has gone on to be the leading performance aftermarket supplier for the Tesla Model 3. We feel we’ve achieved this by offering bad ass products with exceptional value and excellent street manners, coupled with industry-leading support. Setting a few EV track records while we’re at it doesn’t hurt either.
We love our customers and welcome your feedback and suggestions. Use our Contact Us page to tell us what you’d like to see us working on. If there’s demand – we’re interested in making it happen.
If you’re not already driving an EV, maybe it’s time you think about it. It’s an electric party, and we’re here to make sure the cars are just as fun to drive as their ICE counterparts.
