Introducing our newest Model Y offering – Comfort Coilovers!

We’ve shipped a large number of these kits already, and haven’t been able to build up enough to get stock. Kits are generally shipping in 2-6 weeks depending on the date of order!

It’s the most common ask we’ve gotten from Model Y owners. We’re excited to share that we finally have a kit focused primarily on ride quality, at the best possible value. We couldn’t believe how well the car rode after our development was complete, and we think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised with the ride quality.

  • Spring rates set for comfortable driving, very similar to factory spring rates.
  • Damper valving focused on comfort, a composed, solid ride without excessive harshness while still feeling planted and composed.
  • Height adjustable
  • Progressive bump rubbers tuned to engage only in the most aggressive bumps to not add to ride harshness under normal conditions.
  • Utilize the OEM upper hats for minimum NVH transmitted into the cabin. No spherical bearings to clunk and transmit road noise!
  • Bolt-in installation. A competent shop can have these coilovers installed in 3.5 hours.
  • Composite spring perch that will not seize to damper body over time as many aluminum products tend to.

Description

For the last few years, we’ve heard one consistent comment from Model Y owners – they want a more compliant ride, and you want it for less cost than our double-adjustable kit! We’ve heard you, and we are happy to be releasing a coilover lowering kit that is aimed at offering the best comfort possible along with incredible value. Our Comfort Coilovers for the Model Y were tested back to back with our Comfort Adjustable suspension kit and are significantly more supple than the Comfort Adjustable kit.

Below you’ll find answers to common questions about which suspension kit to choose, the ride height adjustment range, and more – but if you have any other questions please feel free to email us and we’ll help you put together a solution that fits your goals!

Which Kit Should I Choose?

If you enjoy spirited driving or driving your Model Y like it’s a sports sedan, then the Comfort Adjustable kit is certainly the kit for you. We developed that kit with comfort in mind, but with the adjustable damping and sportier valving, you’ll be able to find your personal sweet spot between sportiness and comfort.

However, if your primary concern is with ride quality, then this comfort kit is for you. It’s less expensive and softer than the comfort adjustable kit (even at its softest setting). The only exception to that rule would be if you live in an area that sees a lot of road salt use in the winter. In that case, the Comfort Adjustable kit would still be the recommended choice as the Comfort Adjustable kit is stainless steel, so the bodies will not corrode.

Now before you ask, no, we do not currently have plans on releasing a non-adjustable stainless steel comfort kit. It would be nice for those who live up North, but unfortunately, it would simply be too many variants for one platform.

When Will This Kit Be Shipping?

We’ve already received the first production kit from KW, and other kits are shipping out to dealers now for their evaluation. The first complete run of kits has started now and will take around 8 weeks, depending on KW’s manufacturing speed. Depending on interest, the first production run may be sold out by the time you order. If that is the case, we’ll update this delivery time with a new estimation.

What Makes This Kit Ride So Well?

Our comfort coilovers were designed for the user who wants to improve the ride quality while having the ability to fine-tune the ride height to his or her exact preference. These coilovers offer what we feel is the optimal comfort-oriented ride for a Model Y. It removes a lot of the harshness caused by the firm Tesla damper and OE bump stop engagement. With tons of travel, you can clobber potholes and large ruts in the road without even feeling it. In fact, the faster you go the smoother it gets!

An aftermarket suspension can make or break the enjoyment of a vehicle. Unfortunately for Model Y owners, Tesla tuned the suspension to engage the bump stops fairly early on in the travel of the suspension. The OE bump stops increase the spring rate of the suspension very rapidly when hitting large bumps. In addition, the factory shock absorbers are harsh over large impacts. The combination of these two factors leads to a feeling of “crashing” into potholes and bumps with a hard landing. Our MPP comfort kit allows more travel before engaging the bump stops, and the dampers are valved to soak up bumps and potholes without giving you that “hard landing” feeling. Simply, we use more of the available suspension travel to give you a more comfortable ride, but the dampers are tuned in a way to ensure that the body never feels floaty or unstable.

What Is The Ride Height Range This Kit Is Designed For?

We support a ride range of ride height adjustments with our kit, from just over the factory Performance Model Y ride height down to about as low as you’d ever want to go. For those of you looking to raise your Y, we have great news. This kit can be used in combination with our Lift Kit to add 1.75″ to the ride height!

If the ride height you are targeting is below the Performance Model Y, or if you’re using our lift kit to raise your Y, our Rear Camber Arms are basically mandatory. Your rear tire wear without them will be excessive and the camber will be well outside of what is acceptable.

RIDE HEIGHT RANGE:

Factory Battery Clearance (21″ Wheels, Performance Model Y):

Front: 165mm
Rear: 165mm

Factory Hub-Fender Distance (21″ Wheels, Performance Model Y):

Front: 422mm
Rear: 424mm

* The Model Y has already had numerous spring revisions, so the best bet is to measure your vehicle if you’re looking to confirm the exact amount of lowering, however, we can confidently say our kit offers the maximum allowed lowering before there is a risk of suspension interference.

MPP Comfort Recommended Battery Heights:

Front: 135mm – 170mm
Rear: 135mm – 170mm

MPP Comfort Recommended Hub-Fender Distance:

Front: 385mm – 430mm
Rear: 385mm – 430mm

Model Y ride height range with our comfort coilovers. Note, our lift kit can be added if you want to go higher!

Warranty

This suspension kit comes with a 2-year warranty (void with track-use, as is KW policy), complete documentation including instructions, and recommended initial setup settings (height and damper settings). Installation is very straightforward. The OEM top-hats are to be re-used and as such a spring compressor is required to disassemble the factory front dampers. Nothing on the car needs to be permanently modified or damaged for installation.

If you’re interested in also purchasing our suspension arms as a package with the coilovers, please message us for a discount code!

  1. rdhom

I have a 2022 Model Y Performance which the stock suspension was very harsh. I switched over to the Tein Flex Z coilovers and dropped it to 15 inches from fender to the center of the hub and that was also a harsh ride but not as harsh as the stock. Still not happy with the overall comfort I decided to purchase the new non adjustable comfort coilovers. They ride very nice . There is no more harsh bumps when going over potholes or small deviations in the road. I only lowered it to 16 inches from the fender to the center of the hub which is a little more than .5 inches lower than the stock Performance height to see how the ride was going to be. Since it does ride alot smoother Im going to lower it about another inch and see how it rides. The quality of the build is top notch, no plastic like you see in other brands. I would highly recommend these. The customer service is top notch always willing to answer any questions for tech support not like the other brand mentioned above.
